This part of Fontana carries two kinds of fencing work side by side. There are the homes, where the job is privacy fencing, a side gate, or replacing a run that has been up for decades. And there are the yards and industrial frontages, where the fence is about access control, the runs are long, and chain link does most of the work.
The two are built differently. A back yard fence is judged on how it looks and how long it stays straight. A yard perimeter is judged on whether the gates still work after a year of trucks going through them, which comes down to post depth, bracing and hardware sized to the actual span.
Wind affects both. Air comes down the Cajon corridor and across this end of the valley hard enough that solid fencing takes a real beating, so footings and spacing matter more here than the panel you choose.

The name comes from the steel works Henry J. Kaiser built in Fontana during the Second World War, when the government wanted steel production away from the coast. The mill ran for decades and it is the single biggest reason Fontana grew from farmland into an industrial city.
Steel brought workers, and workers brought neighborhoods. Much of the housing in this part of Fontana went up in that era, which is why so many fences around here are on their second or third replacement rather than their first.
The mill era ended, but the industrial character did not. Freight, warehousing and yards still define this corridor, and the fencing work reflects that mix of homes and working sites sitting close together.
