What we build
Gates We Install
A gate is the one part of a fence that moves, which is why it is the part that gets thought about least and fails first. What you need depends on what has to get through it.
Side gates
The one you use every day, between the house and the fence line, and the one that takes the most abuse for its size. Width matters more than people expect: a gate wide enough for a wheelbarrow, a mower or a green waste bin is worth the extra foot at the planning stage.
Double drive gates
Two leaves meeting in the middle, for a driveway or a yard entrance that has to open wide and then close cleanly. The swing is the thing to get right. A gate that cannot open fully because of a slope, a wall or a parked car is worse than no gate at all, so we look at the approach before we quote.
RV and trailer gates
Plenty of lots around here have room beside the house for an RV, a boat or a trailer, and a properly built gate is what makes that space usable. These are the widest spans we build, which means the deepest posts, the most bracing and hardware sized well beyond what the panel alone would need.
Wrought iron and ornamental gates
Gates aren’t just an access point; they can also be a focal point that brings the look of your entire yard together. Iron and ornamental gates are what people choose when the entrance is meant to be seen, and they carry almost no wind load, which matters on an exposed frontage.

Why gates fail
The Four Things That Finish A Gate
Because of the frequent use and exposure to the elements, your gate is more likely than the rest of your fence to run into issues that require repair. Almost every gate we are called out to has gone wrong in one of these four ways.
The hinge post moved
Everything the gate weighs hangs off one post, all day, every day. When that post starts to lean, the gate drops at the latch side and begins to catch on the ground. This is the failure behind most of the gates we are asked to look at.
The frame racked out of square
A gate leaf is a rectangle trying very hard to become a parallelogram. Without proper bracing it slowly loses its square, and once it has, no amount of adjusting the latch will make it close properly again.
The hardware gave up
Rust, parts damage, and plain old wear-and-tear are all factors that can affect the stability of your gate. Hinges and latches are the cheapest part of a gate and the first to fail, and replacing them early is far cheaper than replacing what they were holding.
It was underbuilt from the start
A gate built with the same post depth and the same hardware as the fence beside it will drag within a season, because it is doing a completely different job. Gate posts go deeper than line posts for a reason.

We want to make sure that your home is always as safe as possible, so we also offer gate repair in the event that your gate needs a little TLC. Timely repair that’s scheduled as soon as you notice an issue can help put off the need for a replacement for years.

What moves the number
What Decides What A Gate Costs
Gates price differently from fencing, because almost none of the cost is in the panel. It is in what holds the panel up and what makes it swing.
- 1
How wide it has to open
Span is the first number. A three foot side gate and a sixteen foot RV gate are not the same product scaled up; the wider one needs a heavier frame, more bracing and hardware rated for the weight.
- 2
What it is made of
Wood, vinyl, chain link and ornamental iron all behave differently once they are hanging off a hinge. We will match whatever your fence already is, and at the evaluation we will tell you where a heavier material is worth it.
- 3
The posts and the footings
This is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether the gate is still square in five years. Gate posts go deeper than line posts and the footing is sized for the leaf, not for the fence.
- 4
The ground it swings over
A driveway that falls away, a slope across the opening, or a lip where concrete meets dirt all change the clearance the gate needs. We would rather design for it than shave the bottom of the gate later.
- 5
The hardware
Hinges, latches, drop rods and cane bolts. It is a small share of the quote and the most common place a cheap gate gets cheap, which is why we size it to the span rather than to the price.

Questions
Gate Installation Questions We Get Asked
Can you add a gate to a fence you did not build?
Yes, and we do it constantly. We can install gates for any style fence, even if we didn’t perform the original installation, and we carry plenty of different materials and finishes so we can match the look of your existing fence perfectly.
How wide should an RV gate be?
Wider than the vehicle, and that is a real answer rather than a joke: the approach angle matters as much as the opening. We look at the driveway, the swing and the clearance on site, because a gate that cannot open fully is worse than no gate.
My gate drags on the ground. Is that fixable?
Usually, and usually the gate is not the problem. A dragging gate has normally dropped because the hinge post has moved or the frame has racked. Fixing the cause lasts; trimming the bottom of the gate does not.
Do you repair gates as well as install them?
We do. We want to make sure that your home is always as safe as possible, so we also offer gate repair in the event that your gate needs a little TLC. Timely repair that’s scheduled as soon as you notice an issue can help put off the need for a replacement for years.
Is there a charge to come and look at it?
No. We are always happy to offer free estimates and evaluations to all of our customers. We’ll come out to your home and chat with you about your needs, then give you an honest estimate of what we anticipate the cost will be.
How long will a gate you build last?
Moreno Valley Fence Experts has over a decade of experience, so you can trust that any gate installed by us will be sturdy and secure for many years to come. How long depends mostly on the posts and the hardware underneath it, which is where we spend the effort.
